layers with lotus effect

Rhenotherm, Kempen, has developed Lotuflon: a microstructured fluoropolymer coating with different structural levels - similar to the leaf surface structure of lotus flowers. Rhenotherm uses such derived structures in so-called plasma coating systems. These basic structures, which are built up on the substrate, can be coated with various non-stick layers. The basic structure is created by sandblasting and thermal spraying or plasma coating. Either ceramics such as aluminum oxide or hard metals are used as structural materials. The non-stick layer made of fluoropolymer (Teflon) or silicone is then applied to this structured substructure. The area of application of these plasma coating layers is diverse. In the adhesives industry, for example, deflection rollers for adhesive tapes or labels were coated with it.
