BMBF Research Project "Hierarchically Structured Coatings" (HIRSTRU), Fkz: 01RB0704A

(Term: Dec. 2007 - Nov. 2010)

Rhenotherm once again engaged in a publicly funded research project: the BIONA (Bionic Innovations for Sustainable Products and Technologies) Funding Guideline facilitated the promotion of applied research in industry and institutes and particularly supported applications in the field of bionics.

Building on the research results of the nanobiotechnology project (see there), the production and optimization of permanent micro- and nanostructures on metals, especially steel, was examined in more detail and brought to series maturity within the three-year project duration. Together with two partners from Dresden (Institute of Botany of the TU Dresden, Department of Botany and Nehlsen-BWB Flugzeuggalvanik Dresden GmbH), Rhenotherm has developed a multitude of different ways of developmenttechnically optimized non-stick coatings made of PTFE, FEP, PFA or silicone, based on the biological principle of structuring of surfaces for the purpose of reducing the contact surface. Within this research project is the novel Lotuflon® - Coating emerged whose superhydrophobic properties are generated by a hierarchical structure.
