AiF research project "Superhydrophobic coating of filter fabrics", FK: EP091924

(Term: Nov. 2009 - Oct. 2011)

Since the end of 2009, Rhenotherm has been working specifically on improving existing filter systems as part of the ZIM funding program (Central Innovation Program for SMEs, www.zim.de) supported by the BMWi. This is to be achieved by coating wire meshes of different mesh sizes, which will primarily consist of fluoropolymers such as PTFE, PFA and FEP or of sol-gel materials. The aim here is to give the coating superhydrophobic properties through targeted structuring measures and thus to create a significantly improved filter effect. The main area of application for these filters is the separation of liquid-liquid mixtures, but many other applications are conceivable and need to be researched.
