surface energy

The determination of surface energy is of great importance because it influences numerous applications and processes, from printing technology to adhesive production to medical applications. One of the most common methods for determining surface energy is measuring the contact angle. The contact angle is the angle that a liquid drop forms on the surface of a solid. A high contact angle indicates low surface energy, while a low contact angle indicates high surface energy.

To determine the surface energy of a solid, various liquids with known surface energies are used. By measuring the contact angle of these liquids on the solid surface, the specific surface energy of the solid can then be determined.

There are various theories and models used to determine surface energy. Some of these models take into account the polarity of the materials, while others focus on the molecular structure. Regardless of the method, accurate knowledge of surface energy is crucial for predicting the behavior of materials in various applications.
