First (adhesion promoter; primer)

In the world of coating technology, the term “primer” (also known as adhesion promoter or primer) is crucial. But what exactly is a primer and why is it so important?

A primer is a special layer that is applied to a surface before the main coating is applied to ensure better adhesion between the surface and the subsequent coating. This is particularly important if the surface to be coated is smooth, porous or irregular in any way that could affect the adhesion of the coating.

Using primers has several advantages. Firstly, they improve the adhesion of the coating, resulting in a more durable and resilient surface. Secondly, they can help prevent moisture penetration, which is particularly important if the coated surface is used in a humid environment. Third, primer coats can help improve the appearance and aesthetics of the final coating.

Another notable feature of primers is that in most cases they contain additives. These additives, such as pigments, heat stabilizers and various binder resins, play a crucial role in improving adhesion and achieving the desired properties of the final coating. For example, pigments can help improve the color and appearance of the coating, while heat stabilizers protect the coating from the damaging effects of high temperatures.

There are also primer systems that can consist of several layers. These systems are usually more complex and are used for specific applications where particularly high adhesion or special properties are required.
