Industrial coatings — answered clearly and thoroughly
From PTFE and PFAS-free alternatives to dry lubrication and corrosion protection, to semiconductor, defense and food applications: the most important questions for Rhenotherm as a contract coater.
PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene, known as Teflon™) is a fluoropolymer with excellent non-stick properties, chemical resistance, and temperature resistance up to approximately 260 °C. Rhenotherm applies PTFE coatings to components in the food industry (FDA-compliant), packaging technology, medical technology, mechanical engineering in general, and anywhere adhesion must be prevented. As a contract coater, we coat your components with PTFE coatings under the brand name Rhenolease®.
All three are fluoropolymers, but differ in their properties: PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is the classic choice with the lowest coefficient of friction. PFA (perfluoroalkoxy) allows for greater layer thicknesses and offers better barrier properties against chemicals—ideal for corrosion protection. FEP (fluorinated ethylene propylene) has lower curing temperatures and produces particularly smooth, pore-free surfaces. Rhenotherm can advise you on which material is optimal for your application.
Rhenotherm consolidates its PFAS-free coatings under the Rhenopure brand. Four series-proven systems, all temperature-stable up to 270 °C: Rhenopure MK II-SG-5G (sol-gel), Rhenopure MK I-SE-grey (silicone/epoxy), Rhenopure Lotusilk 11/LK (polysiloxane with metallic wear-resistant layer), and Rhenopure EcoGlide (water-based lubricant). They replace conventional fluoropolymer coatings made of PTFE, PFA, and FEP – without per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Learn more, with seven documented case studies: PFAS-free coatings.
Yes. Rhenotherm offers food-grade coatings. Our Rhenolease® non-stick coatings are used in food production—from packaging machines and conveyor belts to baking lines. With Rhenoback®, we also offer specialized coatings for baking trays and molds.
For semiconductor and semiconductor manufacturing, Rhenotherm offers electrically conductive coatings (ESD protection) as well as high-purity coatings for wafer handling, process chambers, and cleanroom environments. Our coatings protect against electrostatic discharge and damage to electronic components. They meet the stringent purity requirements of chip production and can also be used in potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX).
Dry lubrication (Rhenolub®) uses solid lubricants such as MoS2 (molybdenum disulfide), graphite, or PTFE instead of oils and greases. Advantages: no relubrication required, no contamination from liquid lubricants, suitable for use in vacuum and cleanroom environments, wide temperature range depending on the lubrication system. Typical applications: plain bearings, guides, threads, slides, and mechanical components in the automotive and mechanical engineering sectors.
Yes. Rhenotherm offers specialized coatings for the defense industry. These include functional coatings with defined sliding properties, corrosion protection under extreme conditions, dry lubrication for weapons components, and electrically conductive coatings. Thanks to our many years of experience since 1977 and our own research laboratory, we can develop customized solutions for military requirements.
Plasma coatings are combination coatings consisting of hard material and non-stick layers. Rhenotherm uses plasma coatings for traction coatings (increased grip), wear protection, and surface pretreatment prior to further coating steps. The process is suitable for metals, plastics, and ceramics.
Under the brand name Rhenoguard®, Rhenotherm offers corrosion protection coatings based on PFA, FEP, ETFE, and other fluoropolymers. These protect components such as reactors, tanks, valves, pumps, and pipelines from aggressive chemicals, acids, and alkalis. Thick coatings are possible. Applications include the chemical industry, pharmaceuticals, electroplating, and environmental technology.
The process: 1) Inquiry with technical drawings or samples, 2) Consultation on the optimal coating solution, 3) Quotation, 4) Delivery of components, 5) Pretreatment (blasting, degreasing), 6) Priming and coating by spraying or dipping, 7) Oven curing, 8) Quality control (layer thickness measurement, adhesion test), 9) Shipping. As a contract coater, we coat your components—from individual parts to large production runs.
Rhenotherm is ISO 9001:2015 certified and offers FDA-compliant coatings for food contact. Our in-house research laboratory, equipped with a field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), enables precise surface analysis and quality control. Layer thickness measurements and adhesion tests are standard practice.
Rhenotherm combines nearly 50 years of experience (founded in Krefeld in 1977, and located in Kempen since 2002) with one of the broadest material portfolios in the industry: fluoropolymers (PTFE, PFA, FEP, ETFE, ECTFE), PEEK, sol-gel, plasma, and dry lubrication. In addition, the company offers its own branded products (Rhenolease®, Rhenoguard®, Rhenolub®, Rubberflon®, Rhenoback®, EcoGlide), an in-house research laboratory equipped with FE-SEM, and the capability to develop customized coating solutions for demanding industries such as semiconductor, defense, and food. Furthermore, Rhenotherm holds six patents, reflecting the company's innovative strength and commitment to continuous improvement.
