Coatings in the Environmental Industry
fluoropolymer Coatings for the environmental industry
In the environmental industry, many coatings based on PTFE, PFA, FEP (so-called fluoropolymer Coatings) are used, particularly due to their resistance to chemicals, their temperature tolerance and their excellent sliding properties. From water treatment to waste management and air purification systems, PTFE, PFA, FEP -Coatings help to improve the efficiency and sustainability of environmental processes.
Where are PTFE, PFA, FEP Coatings used in the environmental industry (example)
Example 1 – Water treatment:
PTFECoatings are often used in water treatment, especially in plants that work with aggressive chemicals. The resistance of PTFE or PFA against corrosion make them an ideal material for pipes, valves and storage tanks that come into contact with wastewater or chemically contaminated water.
Example 2 – Waste management:
In waste treatment, PTFE or PFA -coated containers are used to minimize contact with hazardous substances and facilitate cleaning. These coatings reduce the adhesion of waste materials, which increases the efficiency of recycling and disposal processes.
Example 3- Air purification:
PTFE is also used in filter systems that serve to purify the air. The non-stick properties of PTFE prevent particles and pollutants from sticking to the filter, thereby increasing air purification efficiency and extending filter life.
Example 4- Oil and chemical separators:
In plants for the separation of oil and chemicals, PFA/FEPcoatings to improve separation efficiency. Chemical resistance ensures that aggressive substances do not compromise the integrity of the coating.
What are the advantages of PTFE coatings?
Chemical resistance:
PTFE, PFA and FEP are resistant to most chemicals, acids and bases. This is particularly important in the environmental industry, where materials often come into contact with aggressive substances.
Low friction and non-stick properties:
The low surface energy of PTFE leads to excellent sliding properties and a strong reduction in friction (coefficient of friction). In many applications this means less wear and easier cleaning.
Environmental friendliness:
PTFE is a durable material that does not degrade easily. In areas where environmental impacts need to be considered, PTFE help minimize residues from other materials.
