BMWi research project LACK "Laser-crosslinked non-stick coatings for CFRP lightweight components" Vehicle number: 03LB3051A

(Term: Dec. 2021 - Nov. 2024)

In this project, Rhenotherm is working together with Fraunhofer ILT on the development of a laser-based coating process and the materials required for it, which enable the use of highly functional non-stick coatings on CFRP rollers for use in production facilities in the field of hygiene product manufacture and the packaging industry .

Carbon fiber-reinforced plastics (CFRP for short) are increasingly used in industry for the production of lightweight rollers, as these are lighter than metallic rollers and thus, for example, web speeds in film production can be significantly increased. However, these CFRP rollers are only dimensionally stable up to temperatures of 80-120 ° C, so that conventional non-stick coatings cannot be applied to CFRP components, or only inadequately.

ACK "Laser-linked non-stick coatings for CFRP lightweight components"

For this purpose, polymer and sol-gel-based non-stick materials are to be researched and developed in order to enable curing / crosslinking by means of laser radiation and to achieve the highest possible performance in terms of anti-stick effect, abrasion resistance and service life . The project is based on the mutual development of coating materials, coating processes and laser post-treatment processes. In addition, the possibility of using the process to repair CFRP rollers is sought.
