BMBF research project LEMBAS “Laser-based coating of elastomer components with anti-adhesion layers” Grant number: 03XP0634A
(Duration: Feb. 2025 – Jan. 2027)
The project aims to develop a laser-based process for coating rubber rollers with anti-stick properties for production facilities (film manufacturing, packaging industry, medical technology). Current commercially available silicone coatings often have limited durability, and alternative materials made of high-performance polymers such as PEEK require high process temperatures, making application to rubberized surfaces using conventional methods impossible.
Here, laser technology offers the advantage that the required crosslinking energy can be coupled directly into the polymer layer without affecting the temperature-sensitive substrate.
Together with its partner Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT), Rhenotherm is therefore developing laser processes and corresponding coating formulations that take the aforementioned goals into account.
